Quick Nav
The Quick Navigation sidebar is the primary way you move through the QuickBox Pro dashboard. It organizes all installed applications, system tools, and settings into a structured hierarchy that stays visible as you work. The sidebar adapts to your role — admin users see the full navigation tree, while regular users see only the sections they have permission to access.
Sidebar layout
The sidebar is divided into six top-level sections:
| Section | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | App Dashboard, System Dashboard, and Streaming Dashboard |
| Settings | General, Email, Notifications, Sessions, Security, and Registration settings |
| User Management | User Admin, User Groups, and User Roles. The registration queue is not a sidebar item; search for User Registration to open it |
| System | SSL, VPN, API, Web Console, App Templates, Logs, Changelog, and more |
| Content | The Asset Management Center (media library), shown to admins and to users granted media library access |
| Software | The applications installed on your server, grouped into up to 11 categories |
Each section expands to show its groups and items. Click a section header to expand or collapse it.
System Dashboard sections
Under Dashboard > System Dashboard, the Quick Navigation expands to list the individual sections of the System Dashboard, so you can jump straight to the one you need instead of scrolling the wide-format page. Selecting a section scrolls to it and briefly highlights it:
| Section | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Overview | The top of the page: header and the metric strip; the default landing |
| Service Health | Core service status at a glance |
| CPU & Memory | Live CPU and memory utilization panels |
| Software RAID | mdadm array status — shown when a software RAID array is present |
| Hardware Health | Platform, CPU, and memory hardware health |
| Telemetry History | Durable metrics history database backing the history charts, with an admin clear/purge control |
| Inter-Instance Transfers | Transfer cockpit — shown when the feature is enabled |
| Fail2Ban Protection | Ban activity — shown when Fail2Ban is active |
| Streaming Maintenance | Media server task panel — shown when WSDashboard is enabled |
| Updates Available | Pending package updates |
| Diagnostics | Live snapshot and diagnostics bundle export |
| Users | Dashboard and system accounts |
| System Inventory | OS and core services |
Sections that depend on a feature (Inter-Instance Transfers, Streaming Maintenance) or on hardware state (Software RAID, Fail2Ban Protection) appear in the Quick Navigation only when that feature or state is present. The same sections are also reachable from the global search palette. As you scroll the page, the highlighted child follows the section you are currently viewing, in both the sidebar and the mobile menu. Selecting System Dashboard or Overview returns you to the top of the page.
Software categories
The Software section lists the applications installed for your account, plus system-wide applications, grouped by category. A category appears only when at least one application in it is installed, and the applications inside a category are sorted alphabetically. Applications with no web interface of their own (for example rTorrent, which you reach through ruTorrent) are not listed. The full set of categories is:
| Category | Applications |
|---|---|
| Media Management | Bazarr, LazyLibrarian, Lidarr, Medusa, Mylar3, Radarr, Readarr, SickChill, SickGear, Sonarr |
| Media Servers | Airsonic, Emby, Jellyfin, Plex, Subsonic, Tautulli, xTeVe |
| Media Requests | Jellyseerr, Ombi, Overseerr, Requestrr, Seerr |
| Download Clients | Deluge, Flood, JDownloader, NZBGet, pyLoad, qBittorrent, rTorrent, ruTorrent, SABnzbd, Transmission |
| Indexers & Trackers | Autobrr, autodl-irssi, Jackett, NZBHydra2, Prowlarr |
| Automation & Tools | Autoscan, FileBot, FlareSolverr, FlexGet, Headphones, Notifiarr, SeedCross, Unpackerr |
| File Management | Resilio Sync, Duplicati, FileBrowser, Nextcloud, Rclone, Syncthing |
| E-Books & Comics | Calibre, Kavita, Komga |
| Remote Access | noVNC, X2Go |
| Communication | Quassel, The Lounge, ZNC |
| Utilities & System | Fail2ban, Let's Encrypt, Netdata, phpMyAdmin, VPN, WireGuard |
Category reordering
Any signed-in user can reorder the software categories in their own sidebar using drag-and-drop. The order is a personal preference saved to your account, so it does not change what other users see. Open the Software section and select Reorder categories in its header (the reorder button appears once at least two categories are listed), then drag categories into your preferred order. The new order is saved automatically and persists across sessions.
This is useful for putting your most-used categories — such as Download Clients or Media Servers — at the top of the list where they are easiest to reach.
Service status indicators
Each installed application in the Software section shows a colored status dot next to its name:
- Green dot — The application’s service is running
- Amber dot: An update is available for the application
- Red dot: The application’s service is stopped or degraded (an amber ring around the red dot means an update is also available)
- Grey dot: The status is not known yet
Applications that run as part of the web server only, and built-in dashboard modules, have no service to monitor, so they show no dot. Applications that are not installed are not listed at all. Select a dot to see the installed and latest versions and, for admins, to start an update when one is available.
Application links
Clicking an application name in the sidebar opens its web interface directly. Most applications run behind a reverse proxy at a path like https://, and the sidebar link takes you there in a new tab.
Applications that open in a new browser tab are marked with an external link badge to distinguish them from internal dashboard pages. A few applications are managed by a dashboard page instead of a web interface of their own, so their link stays inside the dashboard: WireGuard and OpenVPN open the VPN page, and Fail2ban opens the Fail2ban tab of the Security settings.
Sidebar collapse
You can collapse the sidebar to an icon-only rail layout using the toggle at the bottom of the sidebar. This gives you more screen space for the main content area while keeping navigation accessible.
In collapsed mode:
- Section icons remain visible
- Hovering over an icon expands the section temporarily
- Clicking the toggle again restores the full sidebar
Keyboard navigation
The sidebar supports full keyboard navigation for accessibility:
Tab Navigation
Use Tab and Shift+Tab to move between sidebar items
Arrow Keys
Use Up and Down arrow keys to navigate within expanded sections
Enter and Space
Press Enter or Space to expand sections, toggle groups, or activate links
Search Palette
Use the global search palette to jump directly to any page — press the search icon in the top bar
Permission-aware navigation
The sidebar automatically hides pages and sections you do not have permission to access. Regular users see the Dashboard section and their installed applications. Admin users see the full navigation tree including Settings, User Management, and System sections.
Some items have additional requirements beyond role-based permissions:
- Streaming Dashboard — requires the Streaming Dashboard feature flag to be enabled (a media server can be installed by QuickBox or connected by URL and token in the Streaming Dashboard settings)
- Web Console — a built-in dashboard module that requires the Web Console feature flag and the
admin.permission (no application installation needed)system. console - VPN Control — requires WireGuard to be installed
- DB Management — requires phpMyAdmin to be installed
Best practices
Do
- Use category reordering to put your most-accessed software categories at the top of the sidebar
- Collapse the sidebar when you need more screen space for content-heavy pages like System Monitoring or the Streaming Dashboard
- Check the service status dots regularly to spot stopped applications early
- Use the global search palette for the fastest navigation — it finds any page instantly
Don't
- Don't be concerned if you see fewer sidebar sections than expected — items are hidden based on your permissions, not missing
- Don't rely solely on the sidebar for application management — the App Dashboard provides more detail including version info, ports, and service controls
