Fresh rTorrent / ruTorrent install — connectivity issue identified

Update

The fix is now live. Release 3.2.2.4268 is available in the public channel and includes the corrected install logic. Running qb update quickbox will pull it down — no manual intervention required. Fresh installs of rTorrent / ruTorrent will work correctly after updating.

Status

We have been notified of and have identified an issue affecting fresh installs of rtorrent and rutorrent where ruTorrent fails to connect to rTorrent after install. The fix has been committed and is currently in the beta channel undergoing final testing before public release.

If you are an existing rTorrent / ruTorrent user, you are not affected — your client connection remains intact and no action is required on your part.

Scope

  • ●Affected: new installs of rTorrent + ruTorrent on a server that has not previously had them installed.
  • ●Not affected: existing installs, reinstalls on top of a working configuration, or any other application in the QuickBox catalog.
  • ●Where it surfaces: ruTorrent loads in the browser but reports it cannot reach rTorrent (no torrents listed, settings panel blank or erroring).

The issue was originally replicated on Debian 13, but the root cause is not Debian 13 specific — the fix applies across all supported distributions (Debian 11, 12, 13 and Ubuntu 22.04+).

What's next

  • ●The fix is in beta and being run through final verification across our supported distribution matrix.
  • ●Once verification clears, it will roll out as a standard qb update quickbox release. No manual intervention will be required — running the update will pick up the corrected install logic for any future rTorrent / ruTorrent installations.
  • ●Beta squad members can pull the fix now via betapull.

Reference

  • ●Fix commit: b0bfd72e — fix(rtorrent): rutorrent ↔ rtorrent connectivity on Debian 13

If you have already attempted a fresh install of rTorrent / ruTorrent and run into the connectivity symptom, please reach out in the support channel and we'll get you sorted while the patched release goes through final testing.

Thank you for your patience while we get this through QA properly. Catching it in beta before a wider release is exactly what the testing pipeline is for.
